Course Details
A half day training course for Registered Nurses and Midwives, Health Care Assistants and any other clinical staff members that have direct patient contact and whose role includes taking blood. The training is interactive and uses a problem solving approach to cover the theoretical aspects including anatomy and physiology, vein recognition, infection prevention, skin preparation and equipment selection as well as the opportunity to practice the skill of phlebotomy under supervision as well as the management of complications.A workbook will be issued on the day which will require candidates to complete practical assessments in the clinical area as well as theoretical activities pertaining to the knowledge gained on the study day. Further independent study may be required to complete the assessment workbook upon which a certificate of competence will be issued.
